If a Palace plot had been successful, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have remained in the Royal Family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to be relocating to 'Africa' in order to serve the family while remaining in the UK.
According to the Times, the pair was in negotiations with officials in 2019 about being deployed in Africa.
The positions would "combine some charity work, an element of Commonwealth promotion, and some work on behalf of the UK."
In response to the idea, royal expert Daniela Elser says, "Look, I know, Africa would not have been some miracle fix that marvellously sorted everything out, a panacea to end all panaceas, but I don't think it's going too far out on a limb to say it could well have prevented Megxit."
"It could have been a pressure valve as temperatures rose, brothers fought, sisters-in-law may or may not have made each other cry, and the British press gathered steam pointing out things like Harry and Meghan's hypocrisy in using a private jet."
Daniela then quoted novelist Valentine Low, who said, "I always think Harry would be much happier if, after leaving the military, he went off to work on an African conservation project."
"I think that would have been absolutely the right thing for him to do, but, you know, clearly not something Meghan would buy into," she said.
