Rasmus Hojlund has joined Manchester United for a sum that may rise to £72 million and has stated that he feels he can achieve "great things" at Old Trafford.
The Denmark centre-forward, who arrived from Atalanta as Erik ten Hag's summer striker hunt came to an end, claimed joining the club he loved since boyhood was a dream come true.
He signed a five-year deal with United, with the option to extend it by another year, and was introduced on the Old Trafford pitch before the club's pre-season friendly against Lens.
Last season, the 20-year-old scored nine goals in Serie A and was dubbed a "truly exceptional talent" by United's director of football, John Murtough.
PSG made an offer for Hojlund this summer as well, but United acquired Ten Hag's top offensive target, who they had been tracking since his days at FC Copenhagen.
"It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out as a Manchester United player," Hojlund said. I am overjoyed at the prospect of turning that ambition become a reality, and I am motivated to return the club's trust in me. Although it is still early in my career, I am certain that I am ready to take this next step and play with this group of world-class players.
"After speaking with the manager, I knew that this environment would be ideal for my development; I am excited to work with one of the best coaches in the world." Under his leadership and encouragement, I am confident that I can achieve great things with my new colleagues at this exceptional club."
Hojlund, who is recuperating from a minor injury, will be out for a few weeks but is back in training.
United pursued Hojlund while passing on Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen this summer, and they are enthused by the potential of the former Sturm Graz star, who has six goals in six Denmark caps.
"Rasmus is a truly exceptional talent; he possesses technical and physical attributes that rank him among the best players in the world for his age group," Murtough remarked. Working with Erik ten Hag and his coaches will offer Rasmus with the ideal growth platform; everyone at the club will make sure he has the time and support he needs to fulfil his full potential.
"We acted quickly and decisively throughout the summer to secure our primary targets early in the transfer window." This will provide Erik and his coaches with the finest opportunity to prepare the group for more success in the upcoming exciting season."
Hojlund is United's third summer acquisition, following Mason Mount and Andre Onana, and brings Ten Hag's total spending in this window to roughly £170 million.
