Jack Black has clarified his decision to cancel his Tenacious D tour following his bandmate Kyle Gass' incendiary remark about Donald Trump's assassination attempt.
Amid fan anger for putting Gass under the bus, the 54-year-old comedian/musician offered further information on the situation when chatting with Entertainment Tonight at the Borderlands premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 6.
"I love Tenacious D..." "We had to take a break, but I love the D," Black remarked, adding, "Everyone takes a break now and then." We will be back."
The School of Rock star also talked with Variety on the red carpet, stating that he and Gass, 64, are still friends despite the incident.
"That hasn't changed," Black explained. "These things can take time... And we'll return when it seems appropriate."
In July, the comedy-rock combo canceled their tour when Gass quipped on stage that his birthday wish would be "don't miss Trump next time.
After Black criticized Gass's "hate speech" and "political violence," followers flocked to social media to voice their dismay in "turning on Kyle Gass" and "turning his back on a 30-year-long partnership for the sake of maintaining his celebrity status."
Some speculated that there was more to the tale, claiming that this episode was only a cover to conceal deeper, continuing troubles inside Tenacious D.
