Jenna Ortega has spoken up about her drive to land a producer job for the first season of Netflix's smash series Wednesday in a new interview with Vanity Fair.
The actress, who was chastised last year for constantly changing her lines, explained why she believed it was essential to be fully involved in the show's development.
Ortega, who was just 18 when production began, felt that her frequent presence on screen required her to participate in the creative process.
"I am aware of my status as an actor. "I understand that I am not in charge," she replied.
"But with a character like Wednesday, who appears in every scene, it only makes sense for that person to be involved in what's happening behind the scenes."
The actress's quest for a producer credit stemmed from her desire to ensure that the show's vision was appropriately conveyed, showing her strong attachment to the role and the project.
Despite this, the actress's impact was important enough that she has been promoted to executive producer for the show's forthcoming second season, with Tim Burton remaining as showrunner.
