YouTube is testing a new tool that allows users to halt video playing if they expect to fall asleep while watching content. The video streaming giant has unveiled a new experimental function called Sleep Timer, which is only accessible for a short time. Based on its response, the corporation might subsequently make it available to all consumers. Notably, the business is also piloting a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool powered by Gemini that will allow content producers to build video outlines based on text prompts, video title, and thumbnail recommendations.
YouTube tests sleep timer feature
YouTube introduced the Sleep Timer function via a website article. The firm described the function as follows: "Sleep Timer lets you set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time."
It's also rather simple to use. Users may use the YouTube app on their smartphone or the browser client on their phone or PC and then navigate to the settings menu (tool icon in the upper right corner of the video interface) while watching a video. To utilize the function, the user must first sign into their account.
The Sleep Timer function in the settings menu allows you to pause playing after 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. There is also the option to disable auto playback after the video has ended. This feature is currently only available to YouTube Premium members.
Because it is an experimental feature, users must explicitly enable experimental features before using it. Premium users may do this by going to Settings on YouTube's home page and navigating to test out experimental new features. Take note that this function is only accessible till September 2.
The Sleep Timer function will be handy for anyone who likes to watch movies before going to bed but does not want to worry about shutting the video or the battery running out throughout the night. Notably, YouTube Premium subscriptions in India begin at Rs. 129 per month when using a monthly plan. Otherwise, a one-month membership costs Rs.139. An yearly subscription to the site costs Rs. 1,290.
