With their new statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sparked a new controversy in the run-up to the US presidential election.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made an unexpected excursion into US politics with a new statement, attempting to secure their future by taking on a new significant role in the US.
The Archewell Foundation, founded by the couple, honored National Voter Registration Day by having its team write letters encouraging voters to register before the November 5 election.
The foundation's website reads: "Using Vote Forward's impactful letter-writing tool, our team wrote personalized letters encouraging unregistered voters to take a crucial step: registering to vote."
In a forceful call to action, the foundation emphasized the significance of voting: "Voting is more than a right; it is a critical way to affect the fate of our communities.
"The Archewell Foundation believes that civic involvement, regardless of political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable society. By engaging in efforts like these, we hope to spread the idea that every voice counts."
They closed with a rallying cry: "Together, let us ensure that every eligible voter is informed and empowered to help shape America's future."
It is worth noting that while working royals in the UK traditionally eschew political commentary and voting, Harry and Meghan have previously urged US residents to utilize their civic rights. In September 2020, during the presidential campaign of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the two featured in a video message asking Americans to 'vote against hate speech'.
