Apple has launched a service program to address a back camera problem that affects select iPhone 14 Plus models built during a 12-month period. The Cupertino business has said that affected handsets will be eligible for free repairs at authorized Apple service providers, and users may confirm whether their handset is affected by supplying the company with its serial number. Meanwhile, consumers who have already paid for rear camera repairs on the iPhone 14 Plus can contact Apple to get a refund.
Apple Offers iPhone 14 Plus Service Program for Rear Camera Issue
According to the company's support page, a "very small percentage" of iPhone 14 Plus handsets are impacted by a problem in which the back camera does not provide a preview. iPhone 14 Plus units manufactured between April 10, 2023 and April 28, 2024 may be affected, according to Apple.
iPhone 14 Plus customers may input their serial number on the company's support page to see if their smartphone is affected by the problem and is eligible for free repair. Apple claims that the servicing program will cover an afflicted gadget for three years after it was initially purchased.
How to Determine Eligibility for Apple's iPhone 14 Plus Service Program
To get the serial number on the iPhone 14 Plus, open the Settings app and select General > About. Long-pressing the Serial Number on this screen will bring up a Copy shortcut, which allows users to paste the text into the space on Apple's support website for the iPhone 14 Plus Service Program.
According to Apple's support page, some customers who own iPhone 14 Plus units with damage that hinders rear camera service, such as a damaged back glass panel, must first repair such concerns. Unlike the free servicing program, Apple plans to charge users for these additional fixes.
Customers who have already paid for service on their iPhone 14 Plus back camera can contact Apple for a refund, according to the company's website. Gadgets 360 was able to confirm that an iPhone 14 Plus purchased in December 2023 was not among the impacted serial numbers.
