Google Photos has a secret button that allows users to return to the standard search experience from Ask Photos-driven searches. The Ask Photos feature, which was first introduced at Google I/O last year, began rolling out to users in September 2024. The artificial intelligence (AI) function enables users to search their Google Drive for relevant photographs and videos using natural language searches. Users can also communicate with Gemini to locate a specific image if the initial query does not yield the desired results.
In Google Photos, there's a hidden shortcut for bypassing Ask Photos
The shortcut was spotted originally by 9to5Google. Those without a Gemini Advanced membership have access to Google Photos' old search interface by default. Subscribers, on the other hand, receive a new Ask Photos experience that replaces the conventional search interface.
Ask Photos enables users to use Gemini's capabilities to find a certain image by describing it. However, numerous users have reported that it is occasionally sluggish and unstable. The Ask Photos interface has a little icon in the middle of the screen that allows you to switch to the classic search layout, however it might be difficult to first visit Ask Photos and then navigate to the older search tab.
There is a speedier way as well. Users may instantly switch to standard search by double-tapping the Ask Photos symbol in the bottom-right corner of the Google Photos screen. Because traditional search also allows natural language searches, users may locate photos more quickly in a familiar workflow.
To return to Ask Photos, Gemini Advanced users may just press the symbol once again, and they will be sent to the AI-powered experience. According to the magazine, this double-tapping strategy is incompatible with the Google Photos app for iOS. Gadgets 360 staff were unable to verify this allegation.
Ask Photos also allows users to ask questions based on face groupings or connections stored in the Google Photos app. They may also search by the location or date of the photo, the image's content, and contextual references to the photo made during a chat with Gemini.
