Last week, Google revealed plans to bring Gemini to tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and Android-powered in-car entertainment systems. The Mountain View-based tech behemoth stated that it is presently working to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on mobile devices, with a focus on additional form factors to follow when the AI-powered voice assistant is accessible on compatible smartphones. Google CEO Sundar Pichai made the news during the company's 2025 first-quarter earnings call.
Google Plans to Bring Gemini to More Devices in 2025
According to a blog post including a copy of Pichai's statements during the results conference, Google has integrated Gemini models into all of its 15 platform-based businesses. According to the IT giant, these AI technologies are now available to half a billion people.
The company's continued efforts now involve replacing Google Assistant with Gemini on all compatible handsets. The process began last year, when the Gemini assistant was declared the default choice on some newer Android handsets. Google intends to provide the upgrade to older devices as well.
Additionally, Pichai noted that later this year, the business will transfer its attention to devices and platforms other than mobile. Devices like as tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and the Android Automotive operating system (AAOS) will use Gemini as their default assistant.
This decision also suggests that the Google Assistant will soon be phased out. The Google CEO did not disclose which devices will receive Gemini or provide a schedule for the update.
Pichai also announced that Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Sharing is now available on all Android smartphones. Previously, it was only accessible on compatible Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy S25 series. The firm just announced the release of the features, which need a Gemini Advanced membership.
During the results call, the Google CEO also mentioned the company's expanding artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The tech giant recently published beta versions of the Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash AI models, with intentions to release stable versions soon. Additionally, Pichai stated that the business is currently working on building Gemini Robotics models.
