Jeremy Renner recently described how a "tiny but monumental slip of mind" caused the catastrophic snowplough disaster.
The 54-year-old American actor stated in an excerpt from his future biography published in The Times of London newspaper that he and his nephew Alex were working to clear the snow from outside their Lake Tahoe property on New Year's Day in 2023.
Renner, who was operating a huge snowcat, explained that his nephew was in risk of being crushed by the machine while removing snow.
He noted that the handbook states, "Before exiting the driver's cab! — Apply parking brake!"
However, the Oscar-nominated actor did not use the parking brake or release the steel tracks, and in that instant, a minor but significant mental lapse changed the path of my life forever.
"My feet lost hold on the moving tracks, and I never got to the taxi. I lurched abruptly forward, losing control. In that instant second, I was thrown off the whirling metal tracks, limbs flailing. "I arced over the front of the tracks, propelled forward, and landed on the hard-packed ice, where my head hit the ground hard and instantly gashed open," he said.
"There were horrific crushing sounds as 14,000 pounds of galvanized steel equipment steadily, relentlessly, and monotonously crushed over my body. "It was a terrifying soundtrack," the Avengers star added.
Before finishing, it is important to note that Renner's more than 38 bones were broken as a consequence of the accident, and he required life-saving care first at a hospital in neighboring Reno and then at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
