Anna Kendrick recently revealed the actual reason behind her decision not to appear in The Accountant 2.
The Oscar-nominated actress, who portrayed accountant Dana Cummings in the 2016 film, said her goodbyes at the end of the original film, when Ben Affleck's character Christian left her a Pollock painting.
Anna's character was tied to the case that Ben's character worked on in the first film, therefore her return in the sequel would make little sense.
Furthermore, the second film has a new arc starring Jon Bernthal as Christian's brother.
When asked about Anna's absence from the sequel, director Gavin O'Connor told The Direct, "The second movie was always for Bill [Dubuque] and I to start to unite the two brothers." "Very slowly."
"They had to begin to solve all of their, should I say, crap, all of their problems. So it was always the plan for the second film," said the filmmaker.
However, in another interview with The New York Times, Gavin stated that Anna would return in The Accountant 3, if it were ever created.
"One thing we've talked about is the idea of bringing Anna - who plays Christian's love interest in the first movie - back," said the film's director.
Gavin hopes Christian can finally receive the love he deserves. She and I had been messaging. She said she's 100% in if we want."
