Google's latest artificial intelligence (AI) feature in Search, AI Mode, has been updated with a slew of new features. The Mountain View-based tech company announced on Tuesday at Google I/O 2025 that it is now making the AI-powered end-to-end search experience more competent and valuable. The mode will receive additional features such as a thinking mode, Live Search, agentic skills to reserve a table at a restaurant, and new purchasing tools. The AI Mode in Search and the additional features will initially be accessible exclusively in the United States.
AI Mode in Search Becomes Smarter
In a blog post, the tech titan described the new capabilities coming to AI Mode. It is a more extensive version of AI Overviews, allowing users to ask complicated questions that would normally need many searches. AI Mode employs a query fan-out approach, in which it divides user questions into subtopics and executes numerous search queries concurrently to locate and display relevant information.
Google said that starting this week, AI Mode and AI Overviews in the United States would be powered by a customized version of Gemini 2.5. While AI Mode does not need a sign-up in the United States, these new features will be provided exclusively to a small group of users through Search Labs. Specifically, the business intends to include features and capabilities from AI Mode into the main Search experience.
AI Mode is getting a new Deep Search function that will provide users with "even more thorough responses." It can conduct hundreds of search queries, compile the results, and provide "an expert-level fully-cited report in just minutes" by utilizing deep research skills.
Another intriguing new feature is Search Live. This version of Search allows AI Mode to access a device's camera and, based on what it sees, answer requests audibly in real time. Users can inquire for information on things, landmarks, and locations that show in the camera stream.
Google is also adding Project Mariner's agentic functionality to AI Mode. The AI-powered search experience may help customers purchase event tickets, make restaurant reservations, and schedule appointments. For example, if a user wishes to book tickets to a sporting event, the tool will analyze ticket alternatives, compare real-time price, fill out forms, and provide appropriate ticket selections. Users can then validate the information and manually complete the transaction. Google is collaborating with Ticketmaster, StubHub, Resy, and Vagaro on this service.
AI Mode in Search is also getting more personalized. Google said that the Gemini-powered tool would soon provide suggestions based on the user's previous queries. Users may also link AI mode to other Google applications to give it more information about their preferences. This feature may be turned off at any time.
Shopping Features in AI Mode
Aside from the aforementioned capabilities, AI Mode in Search is providing a number of new features to enhance customers' purchasing experiences. It now displays visual search results, allows users to virtually try on new outfits, and utilizes AI agents to assist customers in purchasing a product when it is available at their desired pricing.
By merging Gemini and Google's Shopping Graph, the new AI mode can sift through 50 billion product listings to provide suitable alternatives for customers. When users enter a product query, it displays a browsable panel of photos and a product listing tailored to their preferences.
According to the tech giant, customers may make extremely detailed and complicated requests, and the AI Mode will still be able to filter down the alternatives to identify goods that match the description. This implies that even if people don't know the technical title for the thing they're looking for, the AI tool can identify it based on its visual description.
Users may now virtually try on billions of garment offerings by just uploading a full-length photograph of themselves. Google claims the functionality is driven by a bespoke fashion-based picture creation algorithm that knows the human form and how garments fold, stretch, and drape on different body types.
Finally, AI Mode is receiving a new agentic checkout mechanism to assist consumers in purchasing things. When a user is on the checkout page of a product (inside the AI Mode interface), they will notice a "track price" option. Tapping it will display a slider showing the product's minimum and maximum prices, as well as a recommendation for the optimal price. Users may adjust the slider to their liking, and the AI will inform them anytime the product is available at that price.
Then, users can just hit the "buy for me" button in the notice, and AI Mode will instantly add the item to their cart on the merchant's website, completing the checkout process by paying using Google Pay. This agentic checkout option will be available in the United States over the next several months.
