The first photographs of the Asus ROG Ally 2 have appeared online as a result of regulatory filings, but there is a twist: the gaming handheld comes in two versions, one of which has a dedicated Xbox button.
We revealed two months ago that Microsoft was collaborating with Asus to produce an Xbox-branded portable known as "Project Kennan," and this looks to be it. It's a black variant of the otherwise nearly identical white ROG Ally 2, complete with an etched Xbox logo on a little button in the upper left corner. That button is blacked out on the standard ROG, but will most certainly be changed or deleted in the production version.
91mobiles discovered ROG Ally 2 listings on the Indonesian certificate, which VideoCardz linked to an FCC filing for the two devices' Wi-Fi modules, which contains hardware pictures. That listing also exposes some restricted features, such as a 7-inch, 120Hz LCD display (same to the original iteration), an 8-core, 36W AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU in the Xbox edition, and a less powerful 4-core, 20W chip in the white version.
The design has also changed, with additional molded controller grips on each edge replacing the blocky, sloping design of the ROG Ally. The hardware appears thicker than previously, but it may be more pleasant to handle.
With certification already underway, it's probable that a release is imminent. Asus frequently releases gear during Computex, which opens on May 20th, only one day after Microsoft's Build conference begins on May 19th.
