Meghan Markle has been cautioned about her use of the HRH title after a friend posted a photograph of a present she got from the Duchess of Sussex.
During the Duchess of Sussex's honest appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, presenter Jamie Kern Lima displayed a gift basket she got from Meghan.
The basket, which featured handmade strawberry sauce and ice cream, was accompanied by a message written "With Compliments of HRH the Duchess of Sussex."
In an interview with The Mirror, royal expert Craig Prescott warned that Meghan risks "blurring the lines" between private and public usage of the title, especially given the gift and card were shared publicly by a person she is working with for a public appearance.
"Clearly, when they stepped back from royal duties, one of the agreements was that they would not use these HRH titles, but they still retained them," he told me.
The expert said, "They still retain their HRH titles, and the concept was that they would not utilize this in an official capacity, so that commercial operations do not have a royal mark of approval.
"In that sense, this was a personal communication, therefore she could, and I don't believe there is anything legally preventing her from utilizing it in that capacity.
"I believe what is uncommon about this is that it has come to light, and it is the blurring of the personal and private.
"But this is a buddy with whom she is making a public appearance, therefore that is where the dispute stems. You would have thought that because discretion is the finest part of valor, you would not use it in a way that might readily be revealed."
