King Charles gave an important address on Sunday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
However, the monarch's address made Prince William and Kate Middleton very sad.
During his address, King Charles stated, "It is now 80 years since my grandfather, King George VI, announced to the nation and the Commonwealth that 'the dreadful shadow of war has passed from our hearts and our homes'." The liberty of Europe was ensured."
He emphasized the need of memory, stating, "Our greatest debt is owed to all those who paid the ultimate price..." We should never forget how the war altered the life of almost everyone."
In reference to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, Charles stated, "The celebration was marked by my own late mother, who described in her diary how she mingled anonymously in the crowds across central London and 'walked for miles.'"
"I do hope your celebrations tonight are almost as joyful, although I rather doubt I shall have the energy to sing until 2am," he said wryly.
Prince William and Kate Middleton, who accompanied King Charles at the historic performance commemorating WWII sacrifices, seemed deeply affected by the monarch's speech.
