Tom Cruise, the star of Mission Impossible, recently shared some advice with the industry's budding performers.
The actor gave this advise while receiving a British Film Institute Fellowship, and according to the Times of London, he feels that "it is important to understand the tools around you."
The actor even expressed his dissatisfaction with the curriculum provided by film schools, citing their failure to teach filmmaking technology to prospective pupils.
He even explained how. "There is technology. It's similar to knowing the stage as an actor, but for many artists, it's not taught at film school: how to grasp the lens and what it can do, why there's eye movement, and how to detect the effect."
Further, "I always tell actors: spend time in the editing room, produce a movie, study old movies, recognize what the composition is giving you, know what those lenses are, understand the lighting and how to use it for your benefit," Cruise recorded.
But he didn't stop there; instead, he encouraged them to "understand the art form to that degree." Before ending, Brando stated, "I absolutely understood lighting; all the greats did."
