Wanda Skyes reflected about Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock on the contentious Oscar night in 2022.
Skyes hosted the 2022 Academy Awards alongside Amy Schumer and Regina Hall, but the notorious slap subsequently overshadowed the occasion.
When talking about her Netflix series The Upshaws in an interview with Variety, Skye spoke candidly about the call she got from the Aladdin actor after the show. But the two haven't spoken since.
"He dialed. She told the publication, "I had a bad cold or COVID." "Hey, I got your message," I texted just now. Thank you. I am unable to speak. He did, however, call.
When Skye said she hadn't heard from Smith on The Ellen program, she added, "No one has apologized to [the hosts], and we worked really hard to put that show together."
She continued by adding that Rock expressed regret to her, saying, "It was meant to be your night. Regina, Amy, and you were all doing a fantastic job. She remarked at the moment, "I'm so sorry, this is going to be about this now." "Because that's who Chris is."
A unforgettable moment between Chris Rock and Will Smith
Comedian Chris Rock presented the Best Documentary Feature award on stage at the 94th Academy Awards on March 22.He said, "Jada, I love you," in reference to Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, while making jokes with the audience. I'm eager to see G.I. Jane 2.
According to reports, the reference was her shaved head as a result of alopecia, a disorder that results in hair loss.
Smith became enraged by the comment, so he walked up to the stage and slapped Rock across the face before yelling, "keep my wife’s name out of your f---king mouth!" before going back to his seat.
Smith officially apologized to Rock the next day after the event, and he was subsequently barred from the Oscars for ten years.
