Denis Villeneuve, the director of the film Dune, has stated that the sequel will have more action and depict an epic conflict than the first, which was more ruminative.
Villeneuve debuted the first Dune 2 footage at CinemaCon, revealing that the film will contain completely new locales and sets to prevent duplication.
Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya return to the cast of Dune 2, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin. Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux have joined the ensemble as newcomers. The film is based on Frank Herbert's novel and will be released on November 3.
The official description for Dune: Part Two states that the film would "explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family." Faced with a choice between his love and the fate of the known world, he works to avoid a dreadful future that only he can see.
Despite the pandemic's challenges, the first Dune film was a big office success, collecting $400 million and garnering several award nominations. Denis Villeneuve, the director, has shown an interest in developing a third episode based on the second novel in the series.
