At last week's Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung debuted the flagship Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones, as well as the Galaxy S9 series tablets and Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches. This year's Galaxy Z series foldable phones improve on the previous generation in some ways, but they fall short in several durability tests. The latest versions, such the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, lack dust protection and are just IPX8 rated. Now, a Samsung official is said to be working on dust resistance for the company's foldable cellphones.
According to BizWatch, Mijung Noh, Corporate Vice President at Samsung Electronics, acknowledged during a press conference that the business is working on dust resistance for its foldables. According to the source, Noh stated that "we are well aware of consumer demand for dust proofing, and we are making various efforts to achieve this, but due to the nature of foldables, there are many moving parts, so dust proofing is difficult" (translated from Korean). According to reports, he stated that buyers will have to "wait a little longer" for dust-resistance on foldable phones.
A dustproof folding phone will undoubtedly offer Samsung an advantage over competition. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Samsung's previous-generation foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 — are all IPX8-rated. The models for this year were speculated to have an official IP58 classification for dust and water protection, however this did not happen.
The Motorola Edge 40 and Asus Zenfone 10 are dust and water resistant to IP68 standards. The Pixel Fold, on the other hand, has received IPX8 water resistance certification. The iPhone 14 series devices are water and dust resistant to IP68 standards. Meanwhile, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and Motorola Razr 40 have an IP52 rating for water resistance.
In India, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 begins at Rs. 1,54,999 for the 256GB storage model. The 256GB storage capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 costs Rs. 99,999. Both variants will be available for purchase throughout the nation on August 11.
