Google revealed the beta of Android Device Streaming during their I/O 2024 event in June. It is a Firebase project that gives developers remote access to real devices from famous Android OEMs like Samsung, Oppo, and others. The business has now announced that OEMs will have early access to the initiative, allowing developers to build and optimise apps remotely using devices hosted by their individual laboratories.
Android Device Streaming - Early Access
In a blog post, Google announced that OEMs would be able to link their device laboratories to Android Device Streaming via Android Studio. This approach attempts to increase the number of devices available to developers. Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo have been named as the first OEMs to collaborate with Android.
According to the company, Android Device Streaming in Android Studio allows developers to access device labs set up in various locations around the world. The Firebase project administrator can give or deny access to particular OEMs. According to Google, OEM-hosted Android devices will provide the same performance, stability, and security benefits as Google-hosted devices.
Android Device Streaming provides developers with remote access to flagship models, foldable devices, and other handsets running both the current Android 14 operating system and older versions such as Android 8.1. As a result, businesses can test their apps for different orientations and form factors, ensuring their stability, behavior, and performance across a variety of devices. It also provides access to Android Studio features such as the Debugger, Profiler, Device Explorer, Logcat, Compose Live Edit, and others, all of which can interface with devices remotely.
How to Enroll?
According to Google, developers may sign up for access to OEM Device Labs by completing a form. They will be notified whether their application was accepted. OEM-provided devices will not be invoiced or tallied against the promotional monthly limit during the early access program period.
The Android Device Streaming project is now in its promotional phase, offering developers access to more minutes at no further cost. It'll finish in February 2025.
