Jenna Ortega, an Emmy-nominated actress, says Denzel Washington's 2004 film Man on Fire inspired her to pursue an acting career.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega claimed that viewing Man on Fire had a huge affect on her, claiming that it "changed the entire course of my existence."
"I'm so appreciative of my six-year-old self who wanted to be a president and an astronaut… because I realise now that I was always looking for a way out," Ortega wrote.
Dakota Fanning's performance in Tony Scott's 2004 drama Man on Fire, which starred Denzel Washington, sparked the Wednesday star's interest in acting.
The film's plot, which depicts a former CIA agent's attempt to save an abducted child, struck a chord with Ortega.
She was particularly captivated by Fanning's performance of Lupita Ramos, a little girl, and realized right away that she wanted to be an actor.
The Scream star's rise to fame began when her mother shared a video of her doing a dramatic monologue on Facebook, which piqued the interest of a casting director.
This led to tryouts in Los Angeles, which her mother drove. Although the YOU alum's life has altered dramatically since then, she is still coming to grips with the notion that it will continue to adapt and transform.
"There's so much about the pressure that is put on this line of work that I do, that it's laughable and it's beautiful and it's awful," she said. "Sometimes all at once."
