Prepare for the highly anticipated prequel to the 2019 live-action adaptation of The Lion King!
On August 9, during the D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, Walt Disney Studios revealed a new full trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King.
The film tells the narrative of Mufasa, the beloved character, from his modest beginnings as an orphaned cub to his ascent to become the renowned king of the Pride Lands.
The film also digs into Mufasa's difficult relationship with his brother Scar (previously known as Taka), and includes visits by Kiara, Simba and Nala's daughter, as well as fan favorites Timon and Pumbaa.
"What you'll learn from the story is that Mufasa is who he is... because of the family and friends that he has," director Barry Jenkins stated during Disney's D23 Expo in 2022. "So I saw myself in it. I thought, 'This is a very great narrative to tell.'"
The star-studded ensemble of Mufasa: The Lion King features famous voices from the 2019 adaptation, including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé, who return as Simba, Pumbaa, Timon, Rafiki, and Nala.
Aaron Pierre as young Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as young Scar, and Blue Ivy Carter as Kiara make their feature picture debuts, joining Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, and Lennie James in supporting parts.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theaters throughout the globe on December 20.
