Tate McRae spoke openly about being a pop star in today's environment and how social media influences her profession.
In an interview with People Magazine on Wednesday, February 5th, the 21-year-old singer said that her "rule number one" is to "never search yourself up on the internet."
"All it does is limit your creativity. "I think the worst place to write or create music is a place of fear and judgment," the Greedy hitmaker continued.
"It's human nature to go out and hunt for flaws, to see what you need to improve, and to see what others dislike about you. And honestly, I've been like, 'I need to get off my phone.'"
The It's Okay, I'm Okay singer went on to explain, "I think whenever I'm confident, ready to attempt anything, and not afraid, that's when I make my greatest work. I believe that independence is essential for producing your best work and thoughts, thus I try to shut out as much noise as possible."
McRae, who recently revealed that her new album would be released on February 21st, described releasing new music as "one of the most terrifying and exciting things ever."
"Anytime I walked into the studio, [I tried] not to play it safe," she noted, "I think one of the worst feelings is releasing stuff and it not doing anything — for anyone else, for me, for my growth."
