George Lucas, the iconic director best known for directing Star Wars, recently attended the opening night screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in Hollywood, California.
During the pre-Q&A session, TMC host Ben Mankiewicz requested that the panel focus on the film. However, Lucas chose to discuss his early challenges and accomplishments in the film industry.
After a time, the filmmaker finally responded to a fan question: "Why does Yoda talk backwards?"
"If you speak regular English, people won't listen that much," Lucas replied in response to Mankiewicz's inquiry about Yoda speaking backwards. "But if he had an accent, or it's really hard to understand what he's saying, they focus on what he's saying."
Lucas said, "But if he has an accent or it's difficult to comprehend what he's saying, they concentrate on what he's saying. I needed to figure out how to get people to genuinely listen, particularly 12-year-olds."
The host then questioned which of the film's two new characters he preferred, Jedi master Yoda or Lando Calsissia.
Which was answered by Lucas: "If I had to figure out a way to get people to actually listen - especially 12-year-olds."
Disney is rereleasing Lucas' Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith this weekend to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
