Meghan Markle's quick business movements have raised concerns.
In a stinging assessment on the Mixed Signals podcast, royal author Tina Brown accused the Duchess of Sussex of attempting to become "a sort of instant Beyoncé or instant Michelle Obama."
Brown, a former Vanity Fair editor, criticized Markle's several initiatives — including her podcast, Netflix series, lifestyle business, and influencer-like ShopMy page — as "enormously shallow," arguing she is juggling too much without proper concentration.
"Do it really well, and then do something else," Brown said. "She is extremely ADD..." She basically keeps making pronouncements and never actually follows through."
The Diana Chronicles author did not end there. She claimed Markle lacked the basis that helped make celebrities like Beyoncé and Obama household names.
"She's devoid of self-confidence," Brown observed, adding that the 43-year-old "doesn't have the background that has built those people."
Brown also referred to the former Suits actress as "unadvisable," claiming she rejected sound advice from specialists. "She has had many good people willing to give advice..." Brown asserted that she doesn't do it and instead does something else.
She claims Meghan solely listens to her own voice and Prince Harry's. "She is Harry's main adviser..." He takes solely hers. That's not a particularly nice combo for any of them."
Despite the reaction, Markle's brand is growing popularity. Her As Ever collection sold out in just an hour, and Netflix has already renewed With Love, Meghan for a second season.
