Wendy's is digging back after facing criticism for criticizing Katy Perry's Blue Origin mission.
In a response to People magazine on Thursday, April 17, the fast-food behemoth defended their viral tweets, stating, "We always bring a little spice to our socials." Still, the brand stated that it "has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world talent."
The drama began earlier this week, when Perry and her all-female flight crew, including Lauren Sánchez and Gayle King, returned safely after a 10-minute excursion into space.
Wendy's tweeted, "Can we send her back," followed by a cheeky "I kissed the ground and I liked it," referring to Perry's 2008 single.
Kesha, who has had public disagreements with Perry over the latter's collaboration with Dr. Luke, swiftly entered the fray, uploading a happy photo while sipping from a Wendy's cup.
According to individuals close to Perry, the barbs were not as fun. One insider told Page Six that she was stung by the "targeted hostility," adding, "This was a billion-dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman."
Though Perry has yet to reply publicly, anger is growing, especially because some celebrities, like Jessica Chastain and Olivia Munn, have openly criticized the Blue Origin mission itself.
