Queen Camilla may be one of Britain's most senior royals, but to Annabel Elliot, she's just her older sister.
In a recent Tatler story commemorating the 20th anniversary of King Charles and Queen Camilla's marriage, royal writer Robert Hardman writes that Annabel "still finds it impossible" to curtsy to her elder sister, despite Camilla's royal status.
At 76, Annabel is still one of the Queen's closest confidantes, and she even acts as one of her official "companions," or lady-in-waiting.
However, curtsying, whether traditional or not, does not come easily.
While the royal family's website states that there are "no obligatory codes of behaviour," most members of the royal household nevertheless adhere to traditional etiquette. This makes Annabel's viewpoint stand out.
Still, there is no love lost. Annabel talked positively about Camilla's experience, stating, "I believe she's transitioned nicely, frankly. I mean, sometimes I look at her and can't believe it.
She also reminisced on the odd experience of witnessing her sister's coronation, saying, "There goes this golden vehicle with my sister in it... It was quite a moment.
Annabel, who has had a rough year herself, is a constant presence in the Queen's life. And, whether or not they follow protocol, their relationship is undeniably strong.
