Meghan Markle is known to have strained relations with her family, and Prince Harry's statements reflect this.
His comments come in response to a question posed during a 2017 Radio 4 interview, in which he was asked whether he had any royal family traditions to convey to his future bride.
"Plenty," he said. "We have one of the largest families I know, and each family is complex. She's done an incredible job.
The now-father-of-two said, "She's getting in there, and it's the family, I suppose, she's never had."
However, his opinions drew strong criticism from the Suits actress' family.
For example, the writers of Finding Freedom, a book about the royal couple, claimed that "Harry's comment only heightened the already tenuous family dynamic and foreshadowed what was to come."
Samantha, her 43-year-old half-sister, tweeted at the time: "Actually, she has a large family who were always there with her and for her."
"Our home was extremely regular, and when Dad and Doria split, we all made it seem like she had two places. "No one was estranged; she was simply too busy."
It is worth noting that Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, apparently never met his grandkids or son-in-law.
