The palace released a video of Queen Camilla following the VE Day service

 

The royal family published a film on Thursday showing Queen Camilla conversing with veteran Douglas Cracknell about his memories of VE Day.

The video was posted on the family's official Instagram account hours after King Charles joined senior royals in a thanksgiving service commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

A statement accompanying the film read, "Last week at Clarence House, The Queen sat down with veteran Douglas Cracknell to hear about his memories of VE Day."

It continued: "This evening, The King and Queen will join veterans at a celebratory concert at Horse Guards Parade to conclude VE Day 80 commemorations."

Earlier, King Charles and Prince William placed wreaths at Westminster Abbey, marking the end of the UK's four-day memorial.

The thanksgiving ceremony at the Abbey began with a two-minute silence, which was held across the country, to commemorate Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945.

Charles and William, wearing military medals and standing among elderly veterans in wheelchairs, lay wreaths at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior to honor those who died in World War II.
