Samsung is reportedly testing the upcoming version, One UI 8.5, after the Android 16-based One UI 8 was widely released in India and other international regions in recent weeks. A recent rumor claims that the South Korean tech giant is working on a new function that would let Galaxy handsets prioritize certain alerts. Notifications designated for prioritization may show up above other general ones when this functionality is being used. According to reports, this update expands on other previously observed One UI 8.5 enhancements, including as new clock designs and a blurred lock screen notification effect.
Set Notification Priorities in One UI 8.5
According to a SammyGuru report, Galaxy handsets will get Prioritise Notifications as a new feature in the One UI 8.5 upgrade. It is anticipated to be a component of the business's in-house artificial intelligence (AI) package, Galaxy AI. "Notifications that may be important will appear above other notifications to make sure you don't miss them," according to the feature's description.
Users may choose high-priority notifications for each app in the feature's settings, according to the screenshot the magazine posted. To make sure they are not overlooked, alerts from the chosen applications will be shown above other notifications when this is finished.
The description of the function also shows that the smartphone will handle the notification information, suggesting that the cloud may not be used for data processing or storage.
Regretfully, no more details on the Prioritise Notifications feature were disclosed.
Notably, in March 2025, Apple released iOS 18.4, which has a comparable capability for the iPhone. The Cupertino-based tech giant's Priority Notifications function, like its Samsung equivalent, uses on-device processing and Apple Intelligence to analyze notification text and emphasize the most crucial information. According to the business, this preserves their privacy while assisting in determining their significance. Users may swipe up to view all alerts, but only prioritized ones are shown when it is in operation.
According to earlier rumors, One UI 8.5 would add blurred backgrounds for lock screen alerts. It is said to lessen visual clutter, which enhances reading. Additionally, the update could include updated lock screen clock designs to allow Galaxy customers to personalize the appearance and feel of their lock screen.
One UI 8.5 is anticipated to be launched early next year along with the Galaxy S26 series, while the exact timing is yet unknown.
