Princess Josephine is presently a student at Spir Efterskole, a boarding school in Snaptun, a tiny seaside town in Jutland.
The 14-year-old Danish princess is King Frederik and Queen Mary's youngest daughter.
This is the first time a member of the Danish royal family has attended an efterskole, a distinctively Danish type of boarding school where students between the ages of 14 and 18 spend one or two years of their lower secondary education before moving on to upper secondary studies. The Danish royal palace previously shocked many with this extraordinary choice of school.
The esteemed institution encourages a healthy attitude toward school meals and adopts a proactive approach to education.
The school chooses a "low-fat and nutritionally correct diet, adapted to the target group of 13 to 17-years-olds who are physically active," which also "takes the climate into account," according to the school's official website.
Every day's meals include of rice, pasta, potatoes, fruit, vegetables, whole-grain bread, and cereals.
Several times a week, the school also provides vegetarian and seafood dishes.
It consists of a mix of low-fat dairy products, cheese, and low-fat cold meats.
According to the school's website, "one of the most intriguing features of the approach is the involvement of students in the kitchen, where they help prepare the food, clear up, and wash dishes."
Princess Josephine's action is a welcome departure from royal custom and demonstrates the contemporary and tolerant parenting style adopted by King Frederik and Queen Mary.
