According to royal analysts, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have completely'squandered and given away the greatest treasure.'
Daniela Elser, a royal critic, mentioned the Sussexes' USP, which they appear to have wasted 'for free no less'.
Ms Esler's story for News.com.au singled out the pair.
"What it seems like, from the distance of two years," she wrote, "is that the interview [with Oprah] was not the first step in their carefully plotted master plan."
"Rather, the Sussexes squandered and gave away their most valuable asset - their story - with this prime time special." And all for free."
Ms Elser also mentioned "how irritated various executives at Netflix and Spotify may have been by this move."
Because "by the time their tell-all documentary and his book came out, the world would already know the major plot points and be totally au fait with their most thunderous and sensational claims."
Another issue is that "Oprah would also set the timbre for what was to follow, which was outing after outing that traversed similar territory - the Armchair Expert podcast, The Me You Can't See, Harry & Meghan, and Spare."
As a result, Ms Elser believes it is plausible to presume that "the Sussex brand was fast becoming one associated with a certain drumbeat of negativity and a proclivity to gripe."
"All of this meant that by the time their actual paid content began to be rolled out in 2022, their story - of royal indifference to their pain, unconscious bias, leaking, and preferential treatment for Team Heir - was nearly word perfect."
