Viola Davis has decided to withdraw from her current film, G20, in solidarity with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
The celebrated performer acknowledged her affection for the film in an emotional message, but stressed that it would be inappropriate for production to proceed during the strike.
Davis praised the G20 producers for supporting her choice and standing in solidarity with performers, SAG/AFTRA, and the WGA. Despite an interim deal with SAG-AFTRA, Davis felt it was critical to suspend the production as a show of support for the important subject.
According to the guild, the interim agreements allow productions to continue during a strike on the condition that the producers conform to the criteria demanded by SAG-AFTRA from the AMPTP. Once accepted by the membership, these interim agreements are intended to correspond with the AMPTP agreement.
Viola Davis has joined Brad Pitt in expressing support with the striking Hollywood employees. Brad Pitt has also just delayed production on his next F1 film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, to show solidarity with the striking entertainment workers. Both performers' selections are significant messages that underline the significance of the current strikes while also pushing for fair and reasonable working conditions for all industry workers.
