The latest iPhone model, expected to launch in 2025, will allegedly be called the iPhone 17 Air. According to the source, this will be the fourth type, among the regular, Pro, and Pro Max variants. While nothing is known about this new smartphone, it will supposedly have a distinct design and a thinner form factor to distinguish itself from the rest of the series. While not verified, rumors suggest that this smartphone will replace the Plus variant.
iPhone 17 Air Could Launch Next Year
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in the Power On newsletter that Apple is developing a new form factor for next year's iPhone series launch. The smartphone will have a dramatically slimmer form, distinguishing it from the other variants. “The idea is to create a “Air” version of the iPhone of sorts, something that sits in between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro,” Gurman added.
According to a prior source, this smartphone might also mark the end of the Plus model, which debuted with the iPhone 14 series and supplanted the company's 'Mini' devices. The smartphone was expected to be dubbed iPhone 17 Slim, however Gurman believes it would be called iPhone 17 Air.
According to the source, the smartphone would not have the same performance, screen size, or cameras as the Pro versions, but will instead focus on its distinctive style and form factor. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier stated that the smartphone might include a titanium center frame and a single 48-megapixel back camera.
It will allegedly include a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1,260x2,740 pixels and a dynamic island. It might be powered by the Apple A19 chipset, which is expected to be the lowest-end CPU in iPhone handsets that year. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, may have the A19 Pro SoC.
These are still early days in the smartphone's production cycle, and because Apple has not verified the claims, they should be treated with caution. Details regarding the iPhone 17 Air model, including its name, will be disclosed only when the tech giant releases the smartphone in 2025.
