Flying Sergeant Zach Stubbings, Prince William's former flying instructor, died at the age of 47 following a protracted battle with multiple myeloma, a malignancy associated with extended exposure to hazardous helicopter fumes.
A loyal RAF serviceman and father of three, Stubbings spent over a decade breathing exhaust fumes from Sea King helicopters while serving in the RAF Search and Rescue unit. His diagnosis arrived in 2013, thirteen years after joining the service.
Stubbings was instrumental in teaching the Prince of Wales at RAF Valley in Anglesey from 2010 to 2013, when Prince William flew the same Sea King aircraft.
Former Navy captain Richard Sutton recently announced Stubbings' death, revealing that he spent his final weeks in hospice care before succumbing to sickness last month.
