Cillian Murphy is well-known for his historical crime drama Peaky Blinders.
Murphy starred in the blockbuster program, which premiered in 2013, as Tommy Shelby, a menacing guy who leads a Birmingham-based gang.
The play was a huge success, bringing the 48-year-old Irish actor widespread notoriety.
When asked about the series' success, the Oppenheimer actor claimed that he had no clue it was such a great sensation until one day when he saw thousands of people dressed as 'Peaky Blinders.'
Cillian began, "We were a small show on BBC Two, and the BBC doesn't spend much money on advertising." For me, it was when we went to the third season premiere in Birmingham and there were hundreds of people dressed as Peaky Blinders."
He told Entertainment Weekly that the drama is distinctive because of the place with which it is tied. However, fans are also contributing to its uniqueness.
"Obviously, it's about that city and it's from there so it's special, but at the same time, it was people all over the world having Peaky Blinder parties and Peaky Blinder weddings and there [were] all these pop-up shops."
He realized from seasons two and three that it was going to be a huge smash.
