Amazon is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool aimed at making consumers' shopping experiences more convenient. The AI-powered function, called audio product summaries, allows customers to listen to a brief overview of the product. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant stated that the audio recording has two or more AI-generated shopping experts discussing various elements of the product to assist people choose whether it is the correct decision for them. Amazon is now testing the functionality on a few goods and making it available to a subset of US consumers.
Amazon's New AI Shopping Feature is Here
In a press article, the tech titan described the new AI capability that is being tested. Audio product summaries are brief audio snippets that may be found on the product details page. These audio snippets include various AI-generated shopping experts discussing product specifications, customer reviews, and technical facts about the product obtained from the internet.
Amazon claims that these audio highlights will reduce the need to scroll through the whole product information page or do other web searches to learn more about the product. Because the audio format is meant as a debate, the business hopes the listening experience will be "fun and convenient."
Behind the scenes, the feature uses large language models (LLMs) to build scripts for audio highlights. The screenplay is developed using information from the internet, a product catalogue, and customer feedback. Following that, an AI text-to-speech (TTS) program converts the script into an audio conversation. Notably, the corporation did not disclose which AI models were employed for this functionality.
Those who have access to the audio product summaries function can launch the Amazon app and choose a product to view the detail page. If an audio summary is provided, viewers will notice a new button labeled "Hear the highlights," beneath the product picture. Users may play the video to learn more about the product and decide whether or not to purchase it.
Eligible users may now access audio product descriptions for the following products: Ninja Blender, OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil, Rain Showers Splash Pond Toddler Water Table, and SHOKZ OpenRun Pro - Open-Ear Bluetooth Bone Conduction Sport Headphones.
