Dean DeBlois, the director of How to Train Your Dragon, has mentioned the prospect of Cate Blanchett returning in the film's planned sequel.
Blanchett previously voiced Valka, Hiccup's assumed deceased mother, who makes a dramatic comeback to her family in the second film of the animated trilogy.
DeBlois was questioned by Gizmodo if the Oscar winner will reprise the role, especially since Gerard Butler has returned to play Stoic, Hiccup's father.
"We have our fingers crossed. But I don't know; it's a bit early to say because I'm still writing the screenplay," he explained.
Blanchett stated to Radio Times last month that she is "serious about giving up on acting."
"My family rolls their eyes when I say that, but I mean it. [There are] many things I want to pursue with my life," she stated.
How to Train Your Dragon tells the narrative of Hiccup, a misfit Viking youth who is first entrusted with hunting dragons as part of his Viking training, but instead befriends an endearing dragon named Toothless. Forging an unusual partnership that alters the course of their planet.
In addition to Butler, the live adaption features Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid.
The first installment of the film will premiere on June 13, 2027, with the second installment following on June 11, 2027.
