Sony WH-1000XM6 Specifications
The Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless ANC headphones are the successor to the WH-1000XM5, and they are supposed to have better ANC and sound quality. They are powered by Sony's HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which is supposed to provide improved performance across the board. Sony states that the WH-1000XM6 was developed in partnership with world-renowned mastering audio engineers from three leading recording studios in the industry — Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering — to provide a superior aural experience.
According to the manufacturer, the new WH-1000XM6 headphones use 12 microphones to tailor noise reduction to your specific wearing circumstances and area. They have a carbon fiber composite dome and a specially designed voice coil construction that reproduces nuances across all frequencies. The LDAC codec enables the Sony headphones to offer High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless. Edge-AI and DSEE Extreme also upscale compressed digital audio files in real time, restoring sound that was lost during compression.
Scene-based listening is a striking new feature on the Sony WH-1000XM6. It is touted to employ sensor technologies to automatically play music based on user activities and alter noise suppression levels in accordance with their surroundings and location. According to Sony, this functionality, coupled with rapid access, may link to music streaming services such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless ANC headphones connect via Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth LE (low energy), with support for SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. They also offer multipoint connection and an auto switch for switching between devices. The headphones have an enhanced design, including a soft fit wider headband made of synthetic leather that is said to provide a pressure-free fit.
Similar to previous generations, the headphones use a combination of button and touch controls, with the latter located in the ear. They function in unison with the Sony Sound Connect app, which allows you to alter settings and fine-tune your listening experience. It adds features like 360 Reality Audio, hear-through mode, and native hands-free compatibility for Google Assistant and Alexa speech assistants.
Sony states that the WH-1000XM6 has a battery life of up to 30 hours per charge (ANC enabled), which is comparable to the previous generation. There is also rapid charge technology, which claims to charge the headphones in three minutes and provide three hours of listening time. They also enable simultaneous charging and listening.
