What is the function of a vehicle? Is it more vital to deliver you and your cargo to your destination safely and on time? Probably. But if you want your car (if you can call it that) to seem like it could swerve its way to victory across Mario Kart's Moo Moo Meadows, Fiat has you covered with the Tris, the ultimate electric three-wheeler.
The Tris is essentially an electric rickshaw or tuk-tuk, and it comes in three configurations: chassis-cabin, flatbed, and pickup. According to Fiat, the pickup variant is ideal for carrying fruit, sand, or furniture, and the other two options serve as excellent starting points for customization.
The Tris is smaller than a conventional kei truck, being 10.4 feet long. While the Tris is ideal for last-mile deliveries, it won't get you anywhere quickly. Fiat claims the Tris has a stunning 12 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque, good for a peak speed of 28 mph. You won't have to worry about speed wobbles at such high speeds since the Tris' wide-track rear axle, increased wheelbase, and pint-sized tires make it stable in both urban and country settings.
The built-in 220-volt socket charges the 7-kWh battery pack. It takes 3.5 hours to go from zero to 80 percent, according to the assertion. A complete recharge takes around five hours. Fiat also says the Tris has a range of 56 miles on the WMTC (World Motorcycle Test Cycle) standard.
Sure, the lack of doors may be alarming for some, but from what we've seen, rickshaws without doors are just as common as those with them. Fiat intends to sell the Tris in Africa and the Middle East, but has suggested that it may expand sales to Europe in the future.
