Terry Crews has made it clear that he has no aspirations to shift jobs on America's Got Talent. While the program celebrates its 20th season, the popular presenter said that sitting behind the judges' table isn't for him.
"That's not my thing," Crews told PEOPLE during the show's red carpet event.
"I mean, I am 100% the bodyguard of talent because when I look at all the people that come through here, they just remind me of me."
Crews, 56, revealed that his path from Michigan to Hollywood still influences how he interacts with candidates today.
"I remember just sitting in Michigan praying one day if I get my shot to come out to L.A. and make it happen, and they remind me of everything that I've been through," added the actor. "So I protect it and I watch them."
For him, it is about providing more than simply applause; it is about emotional support.
"I'm the counselor when they come on. When they get off, I offer them all the best advise. "If it didn't go well, I consoled them," he explained. "So I love that."
Crews suggests a potential candidate to join Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, SofĂa Vergara, and Mel B, but does not intend to evaluate the acts.
"I think Chris Rock would be a great judge," he told me. "He knows funny, but he knows entertainment."
Crews has been hosting America's Got Talent since Season 14 in 2019, and he still considers it a pinch-me moment. "This is a dream gig," he remarked. "Where else can you go where the whole world is watching?"
