On Wednesday, Google released the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1.1 to developers and testers. The upgrade, which was first presented on the Pixel, comes about two weeks after Google launched Android 16 during the I/O 2025 developer conference. It is believed to provide remedies for a variety of concerns raised by users in prior incarnations. This contains fixes for an issue that made the navigation buttons unusable, fingerprint authentication failure, and app crashes.
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1.1 Changes
According to Google's release notes, the new Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1.1 upgrade resolves an issue with navigation buttons being unresponsive, which was observed on the Google Pixel 8. Swiping through app pages on the home screen or in the app drawer was known to cause this. If any app was opened, the navigation buttons would return to their original functioning.
It also resolves two scenarios that caused crashes. According to Google, one of the crashes happened when attempting to open effects in wallpaper. Another caused the Settings app to fail while visiting the battery menu.
One of the defects identified in prior versions of Android 16 Beta affected the lock screen, causing the date to be cut off when using a wide clock style. In another case, fingerprint authentication might fail on a device with several users registered. This occurred under low-power settings. Users also noticed an issue in which the search button changed colour when scrolling. All of these issues are supposed to be resolved in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1.1.
The update also includes fixes for the missing approve button in Device Admin settings, dark album labels showing in the picture picker, and the date disappearing from the home screen.
