Jackie Chan credits country music for helping him learn to speak English.
The 71-year-old actor claimed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that when he initially went to the United States from Hong Kong, he struggled to comprehend directors on film sets and had to rely on his dialect coach for translation.
However, Chan claimed that listening to country music helped him progressively learn English.
"I learn English through country songs, because country songs are slow," Chan told Clarkson. He then sang the iconic chorus from Willie Nelson's hit Always on My Mind, to which the audience cheered.
Clarkson, like the rest of the crowd, was taken aback. "I'm sorry, I just got serenaded by Jackie Chan, that's how I'm going to take this day away," the actress said.
Chan appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show alongside his Karate Kid: Legends co-stars Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang. Macchio claimed that he reached a personal milestone tied to his character's path in the blockbuster film trilogy.
"It took me 41 years, but I finally got my black belt in karate," the actor stated.
