Meghan Markle got a significant snub only days after it was announced that her Netflix program has been extended for a second and third seasons.
The Duchess of Sussex premiered the first season of her program, With Love, Meghan, in early March, coinciding with her lifestyle brand, As Ever, in which the streaming giant is also a partner.
As the lucrative arrangement with the platform is slated to be renewed this year, Meghan's team has been working hard to recruit more A-listers to the program. They were, however, disappointed when they were turned down by a well-known celebrity.
During the Nerve with Maureen Callahan podcast, it was reported that Dolly Parton turned down Meghan when the Duchess' staff approached her about With Love, Meghan.
"Her team was livid," celebrity analyst Kinsey Schofield said on the show, citing a source. "Because no, they don't want to risk Dolly's reputation Q score [and] her popularity by associating with Meghan Markle."
Schofield continued: "They knew that this ask was just to give Meghan Markle credibility in this lifestyle space, a space that Dolly does have a lot of credibility in."
She stated that Meghan's team was "trying to take advantage of [Dolly's] popularity" since, in addition to her country music career, she is also known as a lifestyle guru with her line of baking batter mixes and cosmetic items.
"Dolly is not only incredibly popular and loved by the general public, but she also is somebody who can float around within these different places," a commentator observed.
Callahan characterized the singer as "authentic" and stated there would have been "spontaneous combustion of good versus evil" if she had consented to perform with "a fake royal" in her "fake kitchen".
