The royal family issued a statement following Prince Edward's major engagement, in which he praised his brother King Charles' careful efforts.
The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Royal Hospital Chelsea, which the king established years ago.
The nursing facility is "home to nearly 300 Chelsea Pensioners who have previously served in the British Army and have reached State Pension age."
Edward celebrated Founder's Day in the hospital with the other elderly Britons.
Along with lovely images from the occasion, the King's office sent a message: "Today, The Duke of Edinburgh joined Chelsea Pensioners to celebrate Founder's Day and their founder, King Charles II."
