Ridley Scott feels he has "done enough" with the Alien franchise, acknowledging that the series became "deadened" after the fourth feature, Alien Resurrection.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Scott reminisced on his experience with the alien film series, noting, "I think I felt it was deadened after 4." I believe mine was pretty darn nice, and Jim's was good, but the rest were not very good."
Despite his doubts, Scott returned to the genre in 2012 with the fifth picture, Prometheus, and went on to make Alien: Covenant.
"A number of years after, I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this,' [and wrote] Prometheus from scratch - a blank sheet of paper," revealed the poet. "It was really present and welcoming. "The audience really wanted more."
While the filmmaker has no plans to return to helm another Alien picture, he stays connected with the property as an executive producer of Noah Hawley's planned prequel series Alien: Earth. "Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further," he told me.
Scott previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he believed the franchise had been "ran firmly into the ground" following the fourth installment. However, he then reconsidered the notion and proposed a fresh route to former 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman.
"Then I returned to [Rothman] and said, 'Listen, there's a way out. "We should resurrect Alien alongside Prometheus," he recalled.
