ChatGPT with Instant Checkout will now include AI agentic shopping capabilities, according to the US-based software startup. OpenAI will now allow ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and free customers in the United States to purchase various things directly from Etsy merchants via their discussion windows with the chatbot. Later, customers will be able to purchase items from Shopify merchants such as Glossier, Skims, Spanx, and Vuori.
ChatGPT's Instant Checkout function currently only allows for single-item transactions. However, OpenAI intends to enable multi-item transactions while extending the number of onboarded businesses and locations where the service is available.
OpenAI is also making the technology behind ChatGPT's Instant Checkout available to the public. This is supposed to allow more vendors and developers to start "building their integrations". Agentic Commerce Protocol is an open standard for AI agentic commerce, allowing enterprises, users, and chatbots to "work together to complete purchases". The business created it in partnership with Stripe.
In terms of how to utilize it, users can start a new discussion or click on an existing one in OpenAI's ChatGPT to ask the chatbot about a certain product. For example, users might inquire for the greatest running shoes under Rs. 8,000 or presents for pottery bowl enthusiasts.
In response, ChatGPT will display the most relevant goods from many platforms. According to OpenAI, the results are "organic and unsponsored" and have been sorted based on "relevance to the user".
Users will be able to purchase the product immediately from the chat if it supports Instant Checkout. To conclude the process, customers may confirm their order, shipping address, and payment information. ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers will be able to pay with their registered credit or debit card.
Sellers must pay a charge to OpenAI for purchases made via ChatGPT Instant Checkout. However, the corporation said that no additional fees are charged on clients. According to OpenAI, Instant Checkout items are "not preferred" in the results. ChatGPT considers "availability, price, quality, whether a merchant is the primary seller, and whether Instant Checkout is enabled" while comparing the same product from multiple merchants.
