| After King Charles's decision, Princess Anne surpasses Andrew in the succession line? |
A fresh discussion on Andrew's line of succession to the British throne has been triggered by his removal from royal benefits and honors.
The name 'Prince Andrew' has been dropped after King Charles III's shocking decision. He will be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor instead.
He is presently ninth in line for the throne, nevertheless, and still has a higher position in the royal line of succession than his sister, Princess Anne.
The established succession sequence remains unaffected despite the 76-year-old monarch formally starting the process of taking away his brother's styles and honors.
"His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles, and Honours of Prince Andrew," said a statement from Buckingham Palace, which confirmed the decision. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor will be his new name.
Andrew continues to hold his royal rank over his sister. This stems from the male-preference primogeniture law, which prioritized younger sons over older females.
This law put Andrew and Edward ahead of Anne when the late Queen's children were born. The gender-neutral succession that Parliament substituted for it in 2013 only applies to royals born after October 28, 2011.
Because of this, Princess Royal is still behind her 1960-born younger brother, and the new legislation only applies to the following generation. In Anne's instance, the disparity between succession status and royal duty is especially pronounced.
As the most diligent member of the royalty, the late Queen's only daughter fulfilled 474 engagements in 2024, a 2.4% rise over the year before. In contrast, Andrew has not performed formal tasks since 2019.
Along with a command to leave Royal Lodge, the King's decree also removes Andrew's titles as Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh.
Will Andrew depart from Royal Lodge following King Charles' most recent blow?
"The lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence," the Palace has acknowledged."He has now received formal notice to vacate the lease and will relocate to another private residence."
Sarah Ferguson moved in with Andrew five years after he moved into the Windsor mansion in 2003. The couple, who have lived together for a long time but have been divorced since 1996, will now live apart.
According to rumors, the monarch would pay for his younger brother's relocation to a home on the Sandringham Estate out of pocket. When Andrew renounced his Duke title on October 17, Fergie stopped using her Duchess of York title, and now she will have to find a place of her own.
All eyes are now on Andrew and Ferguson's kids, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who adore their parents and refuse to let them feel alone despite their foolish choices and errors, which they detest and denounce.
