Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper have been romantically linked since October, following a dinner date in New York.
The duo ignited engagement rumors around Gigi's 30th birthday in April, when she was seen wearing a gold band on her ring finger.
Following the rumors, a source close to the couple frankly shared a rare detail with RadarOnline about their proposal.
"It is no secret that Gigi has been pressing Bradley to propose. "She had no intention of being dragged along indefinitely while he waffled and made excuses," the insider said.
"Gigi laid it all out and, in a nice but firm way, made it clear what she wanted and that she would walk if he couldn't commit seriously to her," according to a source.
The source revealed the reason for his proposal, saying, "He knew she would keep her promise to leave if he didn't step up." Clearly, the dread of losing her got the best of him. (Bradley) proposed just before her birthday.
According to the insider, the fashion model's pals are opposed to coercing the A Star Is Born actor into "doing something he really doesn't want to do."
They concluded by telling the newspaper, "Everyone is hoping for the best, but her friends would feel better if the engagement had been Bradley's idea, not hers."
