On Monday, Google published the NotebookLM standalone app for Android and iOS. Earlier this month, the Mountain View-based tech behemoth launched the app on Google Play and the App Store, allowing customers to pre-register for it. Nearly three weeks later, the app is now available for both operating systems and has many of the same features as the internet version. While adding sources to a notebook has certain limits, the business has updated the program to include the Audio Overviews function.
NotebookLM App Allows Users to Download Audio Overviews
Users who had pre-registered for the NotebookLM app for Android and iOS received a notification on Monday informing them that the software was now available and being loaded on their device. Google also announced the app's availability in a blog post, claiming that the first edition covers many of the platform's basic functions, with further features to be introduced in the coming months.
The home screen of the NotebookLM app displays a list of notebooks. Based on the sources supplied, the app automatically gives an emoji to the notebook, which users may also rename. Currently, users may include PDFs, internet URLs, YouTube links, and copied text. Some of the website's choices, such as audio files, markdown text, Google Docs, and Slides, are now unavailable on the app.
However, the app includes the platform's most popular feature, Audio Overviews. After accessing a notebook, users may select the Studio option in the lower right corner to create an artificial intelligence (AI) audio discussion based on the sources. Gadgets 360 employees were able to test the capability, and it takes a few minutes to make an audio file.
Normally, listening an Audio Overview needs active Internet access; however, if consumers download the file, they may listen to it offline. The app also has an interactive feature that allows users to "join" an audio debate and ask the AI hosts questions.
Other prominent capabilities include subject summarization and the ability to communicate with the AI and ask questions about the topic. Currently, the app does not include functionality like study guide creation and MindMap.
While the NotebookLM app is free to use, a premium membership unlocks additional notebooks, sources per notebook, and Audio Overviews. Access to NotebookLM Plus is now limited to the Google One AI Premium membership, which costs Rs. 1,950 per month.
